Introduction

A federation comprising ten provinces and three territories, Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It's a bilingual and multicultural country, with both English and French as official languages at the federal level.

Vancouver

Every bit as cosmopolitan as Seattle, with a distinctive European flair, Vancouver is the Canadian jewel of Puget Sound. From the cobblestone streets of the Gastown district to Little Italy and Chinatown, Vancouver has something for everyone.

Victoria

The capital of British Columbia is also its largest island. This one-time British colony has retained much of its colonial splendor. Victoria is a seaside enclave that enjoys a temperate climate. Which is great, because you'll want to explore all the museums, parks and golf courses Victoria has to offer.

Whistler

The terrain that makes this the number one ski destination in North America also makes it a fantastic hiking and sightseeing wonderland. Whistler Village is reminiscent of an Austrian hamlet, complete with red-brick walkways and ample hiking and biking venues.

Calgary

Cowboys, rodeos and good times await visitors to Calgary. This city of roughly 800,000 relishes its cowboy past and present. A cosmopolitan city in every way, Calgary retains its spirit of friendliness and genuine hospitality.

Nanaimo

Nanaimo graces Vancouver Island and your vacation with pristine and peaceful beauty. Ferry across to Newcastle Provincial Marine Park for a relaxing day of wildlife watching. Or experience a diving adventure on the world's largest artificial reef, and find out why Jacques Cousteau named Vancouver Island's waters the Emerald Sea.

Kamloops

This former fur-trading post is located at the confluence of the north and south branches of the Thompson River. Following the river by train from Kamloops takes you east to the Cariboo Mountains. If you go west, you'll head toward Fraser River Canyon and Hell's Gate, a formidable 600-foot-deep gorge.
