At 17,075,200 square kilometers, Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than an eighth of the Earth’s land area & with 142 million people, it is the ninth largest by population. It extends across the whole of northern Asia and 40% of Europe, spanning 11 time zones and incorporating a great range of environments and landforms. Russia has world's greatest reserves of mineral and energy resources,[11] and is considered an energy superpower. It has the world's largest forest reserves and its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world's unfrozen fresh water.

Saint Petersburg is described as the most Western European styled city of Russia. Among cities of the world with over one million people, St. Petersburg definitely is the northernmost.

The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of the Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Russia's political and cultural center for 200 years, the city is sometimes referred to in Russia as the northern capital. A large number of foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and other businesses are located in Saint Petersburg.

Since we spent 2 days, we got to visit the Winter Palace (Hermitage Museum), Peterhof Palace and Catherine's Palace; the Saint Isaac's Cathedral on the inside and the Church of Spilled Blood on the outside. Also, ate at some of the finest restaurants in town.
