Saint Petersburg is described as the most Western European styled city of Russia. Among cities of the world with over one million people, St. Petersburg definitely is the northernmost.
The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of the Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Russia's political and cultural center for 200 years, the city is sometimes referred to in Russia as the northern capital. A large number of foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and other businesses are located in Saint Petersburg.
Since we spent 2 days, we got to visit the Winter Palace (Hermitage Museum), Peterhof Palace and Catherine's Palace; the Saint Isaac's Cathedral on the inside and the Church of Spilled Blood on the outside. Also, ate at some of the finest restaurants in town.
